Abstract

The music industry has been witnessing major transformations over the past few decades in terms of technological advancements, precisely with the advent of digital media. Data shows that personalized recommendation systems are a key driver of user engagement and retention for streaming services such as Spotify, with personalized playlists accounting for 35% of all music streamed on the platform in 2020. The main objective of this research is to investigate and analyze the ways in which AI can be applied to various types of businesses within the music genre along with its potential significance and impact on these applications. The potential of AI in the music industry lies in its ability to automate and optimize multiple processes which include music creation, marketing, and distribution. For example, AI can be used to identify patterns to generate new music tailored to the specific needs of the target audiences and personalize the recommendations based on listening preferences. Besides, AI is also helpful in the detection of copyright infringement, therefore, protecting the intellectual property of the music business and helping in the reduction of the cost and time associated with the legal actions protecting the financial interests of the businesses. Noteworthy that the global music streaming market is projected to reach $23 billion by 2023, while, the global AI in the music market is projected to grow at a CAGR of 16.8% from 2021 to 2028. In order to explore the potential impact of AI on the music industry, this study collaborates through a mixed approach. A comprehensive analysis of existing literature and then the data collected through major research, conversations and interviews to gain insights into the perspectives. This data is then used to identify patterns and trends to develop an understanding of the potential impact of AI on the industry. The results of this study showcase that AI is significant in transforming the music industry, majorly in the areas of music creation, marketing, and distribution. Businesses focus on adopting AI-based solutions to gain a competitive advantage in the genre through increased efficiency, productivity, and profitability. Undoubtedly, there are also potential risks associated with the same like the increased displacement of human talent, and endangered privacy, and security that need to be carefully analyzed for successful AI adoption. The study also highlights the potential impacts of AI on the music industry reflecting the ways in which it can be applied to various genres of businesses. For example, according to studies the global music analytics market is expected to grow at a CAGR of 16.8% from 2020 to 2027, with AI-powered analytics solutions being a key driver of growth. Moreover, the increased use of AI in music composition and production is also driving growth in the AI-generated music market, which is projected to grow at a CAGR of 22.5% from 2020 to 2027. These results also reflect improved efficiency, productivity, and profitability through automation and optimization. Additionally, the potential risks need to be carefully analyzed as well to ensure the adoption throughout is ethical, responsible, and sustainable.
