Abstract
Furry culture is a vibrant and creative community centered around anthropomorphic animal characters—animals with human-like traits such as speech, expressions, or unique personalities. Many participants, known as furries, create and embody their own original characters through artwork, storytelling, and costume-making. One of the most recognizable aspects of this culture is the fursuit, a custom-made costume that brings these characters to life. Fursuits can range from partial accessories, like ears and tails, to full-body suits with detailed craftsmanship. While professionally made fursuits can be expensive, many furries choose to craft their own, making it an accessible and rewarding artistic endeavor. My goal is to demonstrate that, even without prior experience, anyone can create a fursuit head with time, effort, and a good deal of patience. This project involves creating a fursuit head for my character, Squishi. I will build the fursuit head from scratch, beginning with a foam base and gradually adding layers of foam and fur. I will be documenting this process from start to finish of this project. This project is aimed at furries who are new to fursuit-making, particularly those on a limited budget. Professionally made fursuit heads can cost over $1,000, making them inaccessible to many. While this project may seem overwhelming to beginners, mistakes are a natural part of the learning process. Each attempt builds experience, leading to improved results in future projects. Like any art form, you won’t be creating masterpieces from the beginning. When you’ve worked on your craft multiple times, that’s when you will see the results.
