Abstract

I work on canvas, with oil paint, oil markers, oil sticks, and oil pastels. When I am creating, I use a method I am developing called, “Double-Blind Gestural Method”. I start with a blindfold, using two oil sticks or two oil pastels. Then, I approach the canvas and do a gestural drawing, with my vision occluded. My colors are derived from the primary palette to create unity. Mixing color is one of my favorite aspects of creating. The primary palette helps me discover new color choices and combinations of color, using white and black to tone my colors. My color process is intuitive. When I make color choices, I then react to what the color is, creating visual tension. I aim to create bright, bold, abstract “surreal-scapes” that let the imagination go uninhibited. I use texture, variation of shape and brushwork to be as expressive as possible.
