Abstract

Amy Pooley is conducting a creative activities project featuring 10-20 oral history interviews with lesbian and bisexual women born before 1960 about their lives and experiences in the 20th century. These interviews have then been used to create a podcast called "The Dykes of Yore," which can be found on Apple Podcasts, Spotify, and other major podcast venues. The aim of this project was to capture the histories of 20th century lesbians and bisexual women from a first-person perspective to create a sustainable cultural artifact of this population during this time period. The project is ongoing, but thus far the interviews demonstrate the diversity of experiences encountered by lesbian and bisexual elders while highlighting their shared challenges and resiliency.
