Your Bill of Health: Understanding the Relationship between Your Personal Financial Literacy and Health Status
Abstract
One’s personal health is greatly tethered to their personal financial literacy. Objectives: The current students enrolled in Economics 320 (Non-Profit Management, Administration and Communications) have been working to prepare a financial health literacy education module that will be given to First Financial Bank Corporation to incorporate into their financial literacy education program. Significance: The current First Financial Bank self-paced online community education program fails to touch on the important aspects and relationship between health, wellness, and finances. The goal of the project was to design a series of modules that focus on educating the average new banking customer around financial health literacy. Projected Results: To construct a module that encompasses the most important aspects of financial wellness and health wellness, the students have been doing extensive research and have decided to include the following topics in the education module: understanding the influence of Health on your finances (socio-economic), understanding how to track and measure your personal health, the relationship between mental health and financial stress, the costs of healthcare and healthcare savings, and practical steps to improve your health and wealth. The students, under the leadership of Dr. Christina Ciecierski, wish to present their research and findings of the topics above at this year’s Student Symposium.
