Abstract
Severe depression has increased greatly in youth, with many left without sufficient care or treatment. My project is a pop-up children’s book about mental health. The book’s tone is soft and friendly, because it is targeted towards younger children as the audience. Throughout the book, the main character has two friends who deal with their own mental health struggles. Through the support and caring nature of the main character, they help their friends feel a little bit better. The purpose of this book is to give comfort to readers who deal with their own mental health problems or for those who have friends/families who have. The story does not tell readers how to fix their struggles, but rather suggests techniques for how one could cope in a healthy way. It also suggests that kindness can lead people to a more positive mentality. The main character shows support throughout the storyline for his two friends. They feel supported and comforted, and they eventually open up about their troubles.
