Abstract
The study of well-being and character strength has received increasing attention from positive psychologists over the past decade. Although the relationship between well-being and monotonic use of character strengths is well-established, few studies have examined the relationship between under, over, and optimal use (OUOU) of character strengths and well-being. The current study represents a significant step toward developing a comprehensive understanding of how the different modes of character strength expression promote subjective and psychological well-being. This study aims to contribute to the growing body of research around the optimal-use construct of character strengths, providing insight and direction for future studies and therapeutic interventions intended to promote well-being. The current study will use Qualtrics to measure participants OUOU of character strengths, psychological well-being, positive and negative effects, and life satisfaction. Correlational analyses will examine the association between OUOU scores and the well-being outcome measures. By analyzing the statistical association between OUOU scores and additional psychological and subjective well-being measures, the present study hopes to validate this assessment further. This presentation aims to increase awareness of character strengths and how they can facilitate positive outcomes.
