Abstract

Succeeding in college is critical for students’ personal and career development. Identifying factors associated with academic achievement is an important step in discovering how to better support college student success. This is especially true for understudied student groups such as first generation, transfer, and online students. The present study examines whether several factors predict college GPA. NEIU students will complete an online survey in which we measure feelings of school belongingness, feelings of connectedness to nature, general and Covid-19 related stress, and employment status. Analyses will examine whether these factors similarly predict college GPA for first generation, transfer, and online students. Results from this study will further our understanding of the correlates of academic success and potentially reveal areas to improve for specific subgroups of students.
