Abstract

When I was a child, I had a fascination with movies with fancy, expensive, fast cars. My dad had a car that came from one of the films and told me he will give it to me as my first car one day. He showed me how to maintain and appreciate cars, not just for their purpose, but also for their designs and achievements. This project explores my relationship with my father through our mutual love for cars, with specific attention to the absence felt through the separate lives we now live. My main subject is the inclusion of family photographs of me as an eight-year-old child and my dad. I am going to scan these images and edit them in photoshop to combine images together. Since my dad sold my dream car, I use appropriated images from the internet, then manipulate them as if they were real photos of me and my dad. I know my dad does not have any photos of my dream car, but I can use the old images and create them as if it is real. I want to show the viewers how I have a connection with my father and talk about things that we do as father and son bonding. Bonding with my dad is really fun and things that we wanted to do. It’s similar to my dad and my grandfather talking about cooking and restaurants. Creating images will show how much connection I have with my dad.
