Abstract

I am a meek rebel. The best way to describe myself and my artwork. As I work in various mediums as my mental health steers the direction my art will go into. As I have a love of storytelling, when I was younger, writing was my only outlet. Finding the correct wording was becoming difficult; now, it is almost impossible. I still have this love and desire to create stories and sometimes reinterpret the various stories I read and learn about. Having tried different ways to write my stories, I found myself drawn to sculpture, ceramics, and digital works. My ceramic pieces are utilitarian, starting as very minimalist designs. Now I go with more narrative works that can still be functional with a few purely sculptural pieces. Oddly the newest and most frustrating medium is 3d-print figurative humanoid sculptures that scream and write stories about me. Drawing is the oldest art I have done, with writing just barely eking out ahead. With tablets and digital medium becoming more affordable and accessible, I moved into that and have found it to be an excellent refuge that empowers me not only breathing room to continuously cycle through character ideas that are human, human adjacent, or the other. This art style gives me breathing room. The show will be a visual expression of how I create stories. Though there won't be a single full fleshed-out story told at the show, there will be complete characters on exhibit. The pieces highlight my love of world-building and perseverance. Creating in these styles helps me speak when I can't find the right words. A meekness surrounds me, but my artwork allows me to create narrative worlds. It allows me to have boldness and show figures, colors, or subject matter.
