Abstract

A BETTER YOU Dania Ramos Department of Art + Design, Northeastern Illinois University, Chicago IL, 60625 A Better You is a health and wellness magazine inspired by one woman’s journey navigating the often intimidating and overwhelming world of Health and Fitness. A Better You provides insight(s) into developing life- long habits and practices that positively affect both physical fitness as well as mental health. This collection of information has been assembled by a woman who has endured years of physical and mental pain. A woman who came to understand that pain relief (of both physical and mental ailments) is best achieved through exercise. A woman, who despite the bombardment of unregulated products, prescription drugs, and gimmicky marketing, developed an understanding that shortcuts or "quick fixes” are no path to achieve lifelong health and wellness. A Better You features articles, and insights from seasoned fitness professionals, academics, and everyday people. The author of this magazine also gives great consideration to those factors that prevent an individual from realizing their fitness potential. The founder and editor in chief of A Better You is committed to communicating to the public at large: that physical fitness is inextricably linked to mental health and vitality. She makes clear that a lifelong commitment to exercise and an active lifestyle benefits the human condition beyond the cosmetic.
