Abstract

We will be interviewing students from higher education on why they believe their vote matters and what barriers they may face to voting. The method would be an interpretivist method for our interview. The population would be students from an institution of higher education in a large midwestern city. Our sampling method is a mixture of convenience and purposive sampling. Each member will interview one student. Our study design will be an in-depth interview. We anticipate our findings to be able to answer the following questions: what influences whether students will choose to vote in this year's presidential election? What are their reasons for voting? What are their reasons for not voting? Along with what are some challenges they face to vote? Our research will help us understand students' thoughts on voting and their reasons why they feel their vote does or does not matter, as well as barriers higher education students face to voting.
