Abstract
This abstract offers a comprehensive overview of Elanyce Mercado's multifaceted experience as a graduate student deeply involved in a national study concerning intimate partner violence within the American Muslim community. Undertaking research stands as a pivotal aspect of advanced academic pursuit, marked by a profound learning curve intertwined with both challenges and triumphs. Drawing upon personal insights and reflections, this abstract encapsulates the essence of navigating the research landscape from the perspective of a graduate student. During the oral presentation, the following aspects will be discussed: - the process of coming up with the question -the state of literature, including gaps and needs for research -the process (including rationale) of developing the interview guide -working through ethical considerations in the IRB process From inception to dissemination, my journey is characterized by intellectual discovery, resilience, and collaborative engagement. My immersive experience not only contributes to scholarly discourse but also fosters lifelong learning and commitment to the pursuit of knowledge. Ultimately, this presentation is intended to encourage fellow NEIU students to pursue research assistantships.
