Abstract

Book of Sound Clifton Harty Department of Art and Design, Northeastern Illinois University, Chicago, IL 60625 For the exhibition project I wanted to mix illustrations and visual design into one. I decided an artbook would best be the medium to help me solidify this and I focused on music because it's a hobby I'm passionate about. Music has become an important aspect of my life and it can be mixed with visual design perfectly. With music there's always a song that can perfectly fit any given situation. Music helps with motivation and just overall mood. I will create visuals mixing illustrations and typography for individual songs. Music and visual design go hand and hand. Illustrations are able to give a new way to look at a song by bringing out aspects like color, composition, tone, etc. These specific visuals connect with individual songs and help to draw out specific feelings and aspects of a song. This project would just act as another medium to enjoy music. Being able to look at the visual design of a song helps to bring out the emotions of a song you may have missed or see the song from a different light that may or may not help you experience those emotions. With a variety of factors like song titles, lyrics, tone, and themes music gives the freedom to experiment with different songs and truly help me experiment with my design style.
