Abstract

This series of my work serves as a visual journey through the fragmented unconsciousness of our modern times. The photographs you see are digitally rendered environments, designed using 3D software. With an emphasis on filmic and eerie undertones, these surreal images capture the dark dystopian atmosphere of a world I conceptualized, not unlike ours. You could say that these images take place in a dream-like reality, where most people are sleepwalking and oblivious to the true nature of their existence. The concept of Abyss in Reverie & Ascend in Rapture is inspired by the intro track to the 4th studio album of the English rock band, Radiohead. This dreamlike music features a repeating lyric singing: “There are only two colors in my head.” This mantra resulted in the duality shown with the color palette I used in this work. Also featured are cryptic symbols representing the grand pyramid scheme we are all a part of. The one that has been disguised as this idea of “structure” modern society has accepted. As viewers engage with the imagery, they're invited to explore how our society has succumbed to the weight of false reveries, each image resonating with cryptic symbols that hint at deeper narratives, drawing from the widespread understanding of biblical beliefs. ART + TECH FELLOWSHIP SENIOR RESEARCH: As an NEIU Art + Tech Fellowship recipient, I started a project exploring the possibility of achieving industry-quality facial motion capture from my phone in my virtual 3D animations. My software of choice, Unreal Engine 5, recently launched an app that makes all this possible. At NEIU, I’ve learned that it isn’t the tools that our work is limited by, it’s our imagination. In the animation, I will leave a message for all future art students about what I learned from my time here at Northeastern Illinois University and hopefully inspire some other artists to explore the world of Art + Tech.
