Abstract

This project examines the relationship between the United States and China in international trade and how trade policies have affected U.S. soybean exports. The trade relationship between both countries is one of the most important economic partnerships in world, especially agricultural sector, where soybeans represent a major export from the U.S. Since China is one of the largest buyers of American soybeans, changes in trade policy can have a direct impact on U.S. farmers and export levels. This study focusses on how tariffs and trade tensions between these two countries influenced soybean exports pattern over time. Studying the behavior of the data and observing the trend before and after major policy changes, the project aims to identify whether trade restrictions led to a noticeable decline or fluctuation on exports. This suggests tariffs and trade disputes can create an instability in soybean exports, which can lead to a decrease during certain periods when it comes to how sensitive agricultural trade can be to political and international negotiations. The impact of multiple policies extends to trade to farm income, market prices, and overall economic stability in the agricultural sector. This project highlights the importance of stable relations between the U.S. and China and how policy decisions can directly impact export performance and the overall economy.
