Abstract

My work connects with audiences usually affected by large corporations and greed, and instead focuses on local communities and institutions as well as smaller organizations. In this project, I am focusing particularly on my work for the Adler Planetarium. This project addresses advertising and resources for the planetarium in order for the public to visit and view the wonders of the planetarium encouraging learning and exploration of space. Through this project, I developed skills in communication, advertising, proficiency in Adobe Suite, and mockup creation. The visual strategy includes bright and clear banners and brochures to highlight new and upcoming events at the planetarium. During the symposium, I am preparing an exhibition that will highlight the Adler Planetarium in depth. The work will be displayed as a four-poster series, brochures, and stickers. I will present elegant visuals of the planets to promote exploration and engagement with the planetarium. This body of work demonstrates the use of visual communication with typographic elements through poster design as well as advertising and information presentation. It reflects my growth as a designer by being able to communicate my process, workflow, and poster visuals. It also reflects on my desire to use my skills to make institutions like the Adler Planetarium feel inviting and approachable to all audiences and broaden their accessibility. Ultimately, however, my goal as a graphic designer is to bring attention to smaller or overlooked organizations that provide resources and services that attract the underrepresented public to enrich their lives.
