Abstract
I’ve been focusing on handmade designs that feature curvilinear shapes, gradients, transparency, high-contrast, and neon colors. Through my work, I explore fantastical aspects of the self in relation to the trans experience. I want to call attention to the secret part that exists inside all of us. My work is first and foremost for myself; past that, my work exists for transgender and queer individuals who create a “second self” in order to play with personal aesthetics, and explore gender expression. During this symposium, I am preparing an exhibition that will include the expanded focused project that highlights the “SlimeBiter Designer Branding." I will present a mix of photographs, 3D models, logos, and posters. Out of everything, the focal point will be the SlimeBiter branding, a self initiated project which explores my ‘secondary self’ in the form of a brand. Through this project, I developed skills in 3D modeling and texturing, logo creation, and poster-style designs that include small-type. Viewers will experience tactile wall hangings, words and phrases which activate the mind, and colorful imagery. This body of work demonstrates my personal aesthetics, my skills as a typographer, and my skills as a 3D modeler. It reflects my growth featuring works of art that are not just one-note, but can blend multiple different techniques, and mediums to form one cohesive piece. Ultimately, my goal as a graphic designer is to help others display what’s most important, from their core.
