Abstract
I am using the concept of a grocery store as a way to emphasize how branding systems can be used to evoke conversation about cultural representation and storytelling. My body of work includes projects such as Tazura, a culturally inspired beverage brand that emphasizes heritage and community through its identity and packaging system, and Rayo, a contemporary energy drink brand that emphasizes performance-driven branding and marketing communication. This discussion will be presented through branding systems. This includes packaging, product displays, and print advertisements. All elements of this project are created using Adobe Illustrator, InDesign, and/or Photoshop. In addition to this presentation, I am installing an exhibition of my work. This exhibition will expand on branding as a system that can interpret identity, experiences, and community stories into a visual language. My graphic design practice is founded on the idea that design should be more than just a visual aesthetic. Design should be a purposeful activity that has the capacity to communicate ideas, facilitate representation, and forge meaningful connections between people and the subjects. Beyond the aesthetic, design is a tool for storytelling, accessibility, and the response to real mechanical or social needs. In my practice, I hope to show how design can facilitate the extension of branding into a form of social engagement. My work is centered on the development of branding systems that are informed by research, cultural understanding, and strategic thinking. Ultimately, my aim is to produce work that communicates effectively while participating in the conversation surrounding identity and representation through meaningful visual design.
