Description
Prior to the war, Yutaka Tsurutome and his family resided on El Centro, Imperial Valley California. During World War II, he was placed in Santa Fe Detention Center in New Mexico. Then, he was placed in Gila River Camp in Arizona and Tule Lake Camp in California. In one of these camps, he made the pencil case from threads of rice bags. After camp Yutaka moved his family to Seabrook, New Jersey and then came to Chicago because they had relatives here and jobs were plentiful.
