Abstract
My title is a blast to the past. My medium is photography. The author name of my project is Mohamed Alkhalaki. The department is Fine Arts The focus of my fine art photography portfolio that will be presented in the student research and creative activities symposium is nostalgia. Nostalgia means “a sentimental longing or wistful affection for the past, typically for a period or place with happy personal associations.”, to put it in simple terms, a happy memory from the past I interviewed people, mostly friends, asking them “What is your memory that gives you a nostalgic feeling?”. I will ask them for every detail of their nostalgic memory. After I interviewed my friends, I tried to recreate that moment. When they least suspect it, I will try to capture that emotion of them revisiting their past. Capturing their nostalgic moment. I want it to be real, not the subjects just faking their happiness. Let them react their memory and snap pictures of them doing their things. I am asking my friends for their nostalgic because their nostalgia connects to and child. Some of the pictures that I made were a friend going to eat, hanging out with friends, and just enjoying a double cheeseburger, side of friends. Good food, with good company is the best way to spend a day. Others would be some friends hanging out and talking to each other, about what is new. Talking about that one time this happen or just tell them this and that happen. Others would be my friend playing the park, let him go on the slide or swings, when was a child he would run to the swings, so he can swing as high as he can. One told me how he would always do his chores in the morning, so he can go hoop later. He will do crazy dribble, just try to break people ankles, and go out, to win the game. Whether he carries his team or gets carried. He always said, “Ball is life.”. There are so many different pictures I took. The pictures try show their happy expression of them revisiting what they loved to do in the past. A past of things they don’t have time to do. Everyone wants to revisit those type of moments and would love to go back in time to got those happy moments. I am recreating those happy moments for them and capturing it for others to see these moments, so it can trigger their own nostalgic feeling.
