Abstract

Social anxiety disorder and social isolation are related. Social anxiety disorder is consistently linked to social isolation across various measures, including simple structural variables like being single or living alone and more complicated multi-item scales. College students are one of many groups who struggle greatly with social anxiety and social isolation. For example, some college students are not able to manage a lot of things at the same time, such as work and school. The role of anxiety and self-disclosure as mediators between attachment and loneliness-related emotions of depression has been investigated in longitudinal research. The findings showed that there is a relationship between attachment anxiety and subsequent experiences of loneliness and depression, whereas the relationship between attachment avoidance and subsequent emotions of loneliness and depression was mediated by self-disclosure (Russell et al., 2005). I predict that social isolation and anxiety are strongly correlated to each other.
