Abstract
After facing personal struggles with my mental and physical health, I turned to mindfulness photography as a daily meditation practice. As individuals, when we possess the capacity to observe ourselves and our environment without passing judgment, we cultivate the potential to enhance our compassion and kindness towards both ourselves and others. I seek to invite viewers into this same space of awareness and acceptance, encouraging them to pause, reflect, and find beauty in their daily experiences. Deliberately venturing through natural landscapes spanning from Schaumburg to Glenview, and delving into urban environments such as the Pilsen neighborhood in Chicago, my photography offers its own unique interplay of light, shadow, and color. Each photograph I create serves as a visual narrative of my mindfulness exploration. Central to my artistic practice is the belief in finding presence as a parent. Behind these photographs is a mother who frequently took her children for walks along park trails or explored neighborhoods after Sunday church services. Through deliberate composition and editing techniques in Photoshop and Lightroom, I endeavor to capture the essence of these moments with saturated hues. In my photographic exploration, I gravitate towards landscapes where human presence is minimal, seeking to immerse myself in a sense of meditative tranquility. Whether portraying lakes, rivers, or urban scenes, my work aims to idealize and romanticize these settings, enveloping viewers in a dreamlike atmosphere. Ultimately, my goal as an artist is to create a space for dialogue and reflection, where viewers can embark on their own journey of self-discovery and compassion. By inviting audiences to witness the world through the lens of mindfulness, I hope to inspire moments of connection and empathy, nurturing a sense of collective humanity in an increasingly fragmented world.
