Abstract

This project is an inner reflection and a spiritual search through the Sufism. I took inspiration from surroundings, personal experiences, and the emotions which are often felt but never expressed, as well as the energy and feelings humans absorb from environment and are rarely talked about. This guided me to Sufism, which is a spiritual path to seek divine love and truth through inner reflection. The drawings in my work are lost Sufi dancing figures that represent emotional confusion, spiritual distance, struggle, and the broken connection with one’s inner self. The series consists of five to six mixed-media works (39 x 24 inches) created with watercolor, translucent Mylar, and soft pastels. Translucency symbolizes openness, and solid strokes represent undeniable experiences of life. The movements and materials in my work express the emotions and spirituality which are deeply felt but hard to put in words.
