Description

Piece of wood (24-1⁄4 x 4-1⁄2”) that has been painted and shellacked; illustration of wave and Buddhist saying “One Heaven, Four Seas” is present in Japanese. A label on back reads “1944 Relic from Camp Rohwer in Arkansas; Throw away piece of tree cut and sanded and had an artist paint the waves and rock [and] another artist do the calligraphy; Kobayashi Family; Apt. 12 12 C”. Mr. Ikeda is identified as the carpenter, Ryozo Ogura painted the wave, and the calligrapher is unknown.
