Abstract

As an artist I like to express a deeper appreciation of life and the natural elements in the world we live in because those are some the things that bring me the most peace. It’s my way of showing gratitude for life and the innate beauty of the natural world that encapsulates us. Therefore, I typically use a lot of colors you’d find in nature and sometimes incorporate geometric line work under glazing to further push my aesthetics and designs conceptually. My work is usually made to be something that can also be useful. For example, my ceramics are meant to be usable or purely decorative. For me, it's all about finding that inner peace, and I've discovered that the best way to channel it is by exploring nature through my art. Spending time in nature has been a way for me to clear my mind and draw inspiration. I don’t typically create a plan for my work, my process relies on finding a flow that I can be guided by and that is where nature helps. I like the idea that my thoughts could be seen sprouting through my work. My favorite choice when it comes to a medium would be clay because I feel like natural materials capture the essence of what my art makes me feel. I enjoy making mostly functional pieces, but I use different techniques of glazing, under glazing and trimming to help express those emotional aspects. To add layers of complexities, I carefully manipulate the piece by hand and slowly allow the piece to come together through this process. I hope this allows the viewer to use their imagination and get a sense of their own feelings by viewing my work.
